The next big thing after LQFB: A discussion platform
Hi folks,

I have 2 things to say:

chapter 1: Incomplete will forming process and search of resort
To make a long story short:
After 2 1/2 years of usage of the resolution system LQFB within the pirate party in Germany
the calls for progress in e-Democracy are growing ever louder.
This has several reasons:
The most important one is, that it gets more and more obvious, that the willforming process
alone with LQFB is not complete. LQFB is a resolution system. So within the whole willforming
process it's only made for the end, not for the middle part - the discussion - and not for the
beginning - the information.
This is a quite spicy 'aha'-moment. Everywhere the pirate party is illustrated as the great
democracy revolutioner, and yet we know, that LQFB only can be the peak of a huge iceberg
peaking out of the water with it's relatively small end.

the calls for progress in e-Democracy are growing ever louder.

How to deal with this ?
The pirate party in Germany founded 3 working groups; one for developing an
information system - the working group 'Bürgerbeteiligung' (BB; citizen participation),
one for developing a discussion system - the working group 'Meinungsfindungstool'
(MFT; opinion forming tool) and one for improving the resolution system 'Liquid Democracy' (LD).

On a great scale it's about emanzipating civilisation to do politics bottom-up and independently
of parliaments, so that the masses clearly lead politics, tell them what to do, and if they don't do,
what millions of people have formed in infomation and discussion processes - which btw will be far more
sophisticated than any parliament of the world could ever work - outside of the parliaments,
then they won't get elected once again. So, this is how political parties and current corrupt mechanisms
could get obsolete.

So, you see, it's really a huge, visionary project. It's about globalizing democracy on
a scale, which couldn't be any bigger: It's about interconnecting brains of all human beings,
it's about forming collective intelligence out of our whole civilisation to solve the problems
we're facing.

I'm a member of the working group Meinungsfindungstool. This is what we have in mind for
the discussion system:

After long arduous reasoning and pondering we've finally come to the conclusion that the
smartest approach to developing a discussion platform is to create a platform neutral
meta discussion system, consisting of 2 structures:
- a basic structure (framework)
- and plug-ins (a plug-in is a discussion method)

The thing is this:
Noone of us knows what's the best discussion method; we all have something
in mind regarding this, but no evidence for the correctness of our assumptions.
Additionally there are more than 100 approaches to this topic in the world;
most of them are struggling because the developer team and it's user community
didn't reach the critical mass so far.
Additionally the topic 'discussion system' as such in general is so fresh and young,
that it's totally in the early stages of development; even if you ignore the
evidence issue, we probably aren't able to think up 'the optimal discussion system',
because for that probably it takes trying to think it up with one of the predecessors
of it.
Our approach reflects all this. It converts competition into cooperation, it
joins forces, and it's meant to be an ideal development environment for developers
and a handy tool for the community at the same time. It is supposed to be
useful for everyone right from the start and be the most efficient, shortest
way to make progress developing higher, more optimal forms of
a discussion system. It's a self-learning system.

The different discussion methods all get space on the basic structure
in form of plug-ins and have to prove their quality in practice.
So, we don't need to speculate what's the best MFT - we'll see; time will
tell.
The plug-ins share data among eath other by the framework, so that
it doesn't matter what discussion method the users are using; it all will
land in the same data basis.
For users switching between the different discussion methods will be
as easy as changing background color within twitter; one shall be able
to do so with just one mouse click.

Last monday programmer work has started; within the AG one group
is dealing with the development of the basic structure (framework) and
one group is dealing with development of one of the first plug-ins.

If you like that, you are free to join.
Here's our mailing list: https://service.piratenpartei.de/lis...gsfindungstool
And here is our ML-syned message board: https://news.piratenpartei.de/forumdisplay.php?fid=438
Just draw our attention to you there...
We could need more interface designers, game designers, and programmers, but everyone
is welcome ! You don't need any profession to join us and help to keep things ticking over.

chapter 2: E-democracy talk

Upcoming saturday team BasDeM has an appointment for presenting their discussion
tool 'BasDeM' in mumble (download & install programm before the session starts); that
means:

E-democracy talk - episode07: Diskussion tool BasDeM - upcoming Sa, 01.12.12 -
21h00 (berlin time UTC+1)
@ Mumble http://is.gd/yN0dgS (Mumble-Link)
